Case study

The project

A closer look at the original condition, the preparation involved and how the finished result was achieved.

The Brief

This bedroom in Alvaston needed the ceiling boarded, blown or damaged plaster repaired and the whole room skimmed. The photographs follow the work from the original surfaces through preparation to the finished plasterwork.

The Preparation

The original ceiling showed cracking and uneven surface patches. Damaged plaster around the window was removed before repairs were carried out. The wardrobe and floor were protected while the room was prepared for plastering.

The Work

Plasterboard was fitted to the ceiling and the board joints taped. Blown and damaged areas of plaster were repaired, including around the window, before a skim finish was applied to the ceiling and walls throughout the room.

The Result

The bedroom was left with freshly skimmed walls, ceiling and window reveals. The finished photographs show the plaster still drying, ready to dry fully before decoration.
